I am a migrant woman, lived experience advocate, and former academic with a background in data analysis. My advocacy focuses on improving systemic responses to family violence for migrant and refugee women, particularly where legal, linguistic, and cultural barriers intersect with temporary visa status.
I speak from first-hand experience of trying to access support while on a temporary visa, in a context where English was not my first language and where my cultural background discouraged the open discussion of domestic abuse. I am especially passionate about highlighting how having children with an Australian citizen can complicate access to services, and how systems can unintentionally disadvantage migrant women and children at critical moments.
I also speak to the added challenges faced by LGBTIQA+ migrants, and the impact of coercive control, financial abuse, and migration-related threats on help-seeking and recovery—especially when compounded by poor mental health.
