NOOR Survivor-Advocates

NOOR is a powerful advocate-led voice, where migrant and refugee communities with lived experience can reclaim our narrative, to influence and transform the system. Our purpose is to embed diverse and intersectional voices at all levels to drive change in systemic approaches to family violence, and to achieve meaningful, sustainable change in the social collective consciousness on family violence.

Meet Tequila

I am a lived experience advocate and survivor of family violence, shaped by my identity as a woman of Chinese heritage. My journey through coercive control, emotional and physical abuse, and police misidentification—particularly during the perinatal period —has deeply shaped my approach to advocacy and education.

I understand how cultural expectations, language barriers, and fear of authority can silence survivors. I now use my voice to help others reclaim theirs.

As an educator, I believe education is one of the most powerful tools we have to break the cycle of abuse. It equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to recognise harm, understand their rights, and seek support. It also plays a vital role in disrupting intergenerational patterns by teaching young people empathy, respect, boundaries, and healthy communication.
