NOOR Survivor-Advocates

NOOR is a powerful advocate-led voice, where migrant and refugee communities with lived experience can reclaim our narrative, to influence and transform the system. Our purpose is to embed diverse and intersectional voices at all levels to drive change in systemic approaches to family violence, and to achieve meaningful, sustainable change in the social collective consciousness on family violence.

Meet Tonya Chitima

I am a banking and finance professional with over a decade of experience across project finance, credit risk, and economic policy. Outside of my professional experience, I have also worked in advocacy and social impact for vulnerable and marginalised children. This advocacy work was spearheaded by a local NGO in collaboration with organisations such as UNICEF and Save the Children. The goal of these programs was to promote equitable outcomes for marginalised and vulnerable children through social and fiscal policy advocacy, fiscal monitoring, capacity building and public education campaigns.

I have always been a strong advocate for equitable outcomes for others. However, it is my own personal experience as a migrant woman, that showed me that it’s not just children – who are unable to advocate for themselves – but even an adults can be voiceless and experience first-hand the unfairness of a system.
