ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Family Violence Practitioner – Children and Young People provides specialist family violence support to children, young people and their families from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Working within a culturally responsive, trauma-informed and child-centred framework, you will support children and young people to improve their safety, wellbeing, resilience and recovery outcomes.

The role involves comprehensive risk assessment, safety planning, case management, advocacy, group work, secondary consultation and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated and effective responses for children and young people affected by family violence.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality intake, screening, risk assessment and safety planning services for children, young people and families affected by family violence.
• Deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed and child-centred case management and recovery support.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and case planning in accordance with the MARAM Framework and child-centred practice principles.
• Support children and young people to strengthen protective factors, enhance wellbeing and achieve positive developmental outcomes.
• Facilitate individual and group-based interventions that support recovery, resilience and social connection.
• Advocate for children, young people and families to access education, housing, health, legal and community services.
• Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, child and family services, specialist family violence services and other stakeholders.
• Provide secondary consultation and specialist advice regarding culturally responsive and child-centred family violence practice.
• Contribute to service development, continuous improvement initiatives and organisational projects that strengthen responses to children and young people.
• Maintain high-quality case notes, reports, risk assessments and client records.
• Actively participate in reflective practice, supervision, quality assurance and professional development activities.
• Promote child safety and wellbeing in accordance with legislative, organisational and Child Safe Standards requirements.

ABOUT THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

To be successful in the role you will have;

Essential Criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work, Community Services, Community Development or a related discipline.
• Minimum two years’ experience working in specialist family violence, child and family services, youth services or a related sector.
• Demonstrated experience supporting children and young people affected by family violence, trauma, abuse and/or adverse childhood experiences.
• Demonstrated understanding and application of child-centred, trauma-informed and developmentally informed practice frameworks.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying the MARAM Framework, including responsibilities relating to children and young people.
• Demonstrated understanding and practical application of the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
• Demonstrated understanding of child wellbeing, child development and the impacts of trauma on children and young people.
• Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting migrant and refugee women, children and young people experiencing family violence.
• Demonstrated understanding of culturally responsive practice and the barriers experienced by culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
• Strong risk assessment, case management, advocacy and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent written communication, record keeping and report-writing skills.
