New Legal Resources: VOCAT

Recognising the often complex challenges faced by women from migrant and refugee communities can face when seeking justice, our VOCAT resources aim to simplify the process and provide clear, accessible information.

We are thrilled to introduce our latest initiative through inTouch’s Legal Centre — a set of resources focusing on Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT). VOCAT was established by legislation to provide financial assistance to victims of violent crime committed in Victoria. It assist victims to recover from a crime by providing financial assistance for expenses incurred, or reasonably likely to be incurred, as a direct result of the crime. This can be things like lost income, counselling and medical costs.

In our ongoing commitment to overcoming challenges faced by migrant and refugee women accessing the justice system, we’re created these simple English resources to simplify the often complex process applying for assistance. View What is VOCAT here, and a checklist for application here.
