Description

This two-part training supports practitioners to strengthen work with migrant and refugee victim survivors through a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens.

Blending Culturally Responsive Practice (CRP) with Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), this training session centres the unique lived experiences, identities, and support needs of individuals navigating family violence alongside migration, visa insecurity, and systemic barriers.

What we’ll cover:

🔹 CRP Module (Part 1)

  • Deepen your understanding of cultural humility
  • Reflect on unconscious bias
  • Apply intersectionality to enhance inclusive, client-centred responses

🔹 TIC Module (Part 2)

  • Identify common trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and triggers
  • Learn the Four R’s of trauma-informed care: Realise, Recognise, Respond, Resist re-traumatisation
  • Explore the Five Principles of TIC: Safety, Trust, Empowerment, Collaboration, Cultural Sensitivity
  • Strengthen your approach to risk assessment, safety planning, and child-inclusive practice
  • Practice language and techniques that promote trust, validation, and healing

Through group discussions, case studies and reflective activities, participants will walk away with tools to support safe, respectful, and empowering engagement.

Is this training for you?

  • Are you working in the community sectors?
  • Do you engage with refugee and migrant clients experiencing family violence?
  • Do you need additional training that builds on your foundational knowledge?

If yes, then please register using your organisational email address.

Note: There is a cap of a maximum of 3 participants per organisation as places are limited. Thank you.
