Government’s Transformative Funding Boost Brings Hope to Women Facing Family Violence

For the first time, the National Access to Justice Partnership includes a dedicated funding stream specifically for specialist legal assistance for women.

inTouch Women’s Legal Centre welcome the Commonwealth Government’s significant boost in funding for specialist women’s legal services, announced last week under the new National Access to Justice Partnership agreement.

For the first time, the National Access to Justice Partnership includes a dedicated funding stream specifically for specialist legal assistance for women. This milestone acknowledges the essential work of women’s legal services in guiding women through crises and advocating for systemic change.

It also represents a vital step forward in supporting women in crisis and addressing gender-based violence. It offers both immediate and long-term benefits, particularly for marginalised groups like our clients, who face multiple barriers and navigate complex legal challenges at the intersection of family violence, family law, and migration law.

We are deeply grateful to Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus and Minister for Women Katy Gallagher for their commitment to advancing access to justice for women. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively to ensure that migrant and refugee women experiencing violence and inequality have access to the specialised legal assistance they need and deserve.
