ABOUT THE ROLE

The Family Violence Practitioner plays a key role in delivering culturally responsive family violence services to individuals and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds. The role includes comprehensive case management, risk assessment, safety planning, and recovery-oriented support for victim survivors, alongside significant involvement in the Motivation for Change (MFC) Program, supporting men who use family violence to take responsibility for their behaviour and reduce risk.

Working within the MARAM Framework and a multidisciplinary team, the practitioner contributes to holistic, trauma-informed responses that prioritise safety, accountability, and long-term change. With appropriate supervision, boundaries, and portfolio rotation, the role balances work with victim survivors and MFC participants, ensuring ethical and integrated service delivery. Language proficiency in Dari, Persian or Hazaraghi is essential to effectively engage and support clients and communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide case management support to men participating in the Motivation for Change Program, working within clear professional boundaries and accountability frameworks.
  • Facilitate the Motivation for Change Program (following specialist training), supporting participants to recognise the impact of their behaviour and work toward safer relationships.
  • Deliver high-quality intake, screening, triage, and safety planning services in accordance with MARAM standards and culturally responsive practice.
  • Provide short- and long-term case management to women and children experiencing family violence, including advocacy, brief interventions, partner contact services, and referrals.
  • Undertake comprehensive risk, needs, and safety assessments, with a strong focus on high-risk and complex presentations.
  • Deliver partner contact and associated support services to enhance victim survivor safety and inform risk management.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support coordinated and integrated responses to family violence.
  • Provide secondary consultation, advocacy, and referrals to connect clients with relevant internal and external services.
  • Offer specialist advice to external service providers on culturally responsive family violence practice, particularly in relation to refugee and migrant communities.
  • Contribute to organisational initiatives, strategic projects, and policy development through specialist knowledge and consultation.
  • Support team members during periods of high demand, participate in project groups, and attend community or sector events as required.
  • Facilitate group-based programs to support recovery for women and/or children impacted by family violence.
  • Prepare high-quality written documentation, including professional reports, case notes, funding and housing applications, and correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate data collection, reporting, and documentation in line with quality, governance, and accreditation requirements.
  • Actively contribute to service improvement, innovation, and the development of new programs and responses.
  • Work effectively with external services and government agencies to support an integrated and coordinated approach to family violence intervention.
