Specialist Training: Trauma-Informed Care in Migrant and Refugee Communities

This training supports practitioners to strengthen work with migrant and refugee victim survivors through a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens. The session centres the unique lived experiences, identities, and support needs of individuals navigating family violence alongside migration, visa insecurity, and systemic barriers.

What we will cover:

• Identify common trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and triggers
• Learn the Four R’s of trauma-informed care: Realise, Recognise, Respond, Resist re-traumatisation
• Explore the Five Principles of TIC: Safety, Trust, Empowerment, Collaboration, Cultural Sensitivity
• Strengthen your approach to risk assessment, safety planning, and child-inclusive practice
• Practice language and techniques that promote trust, validation, and healing

Through group discussions, case studies and reflective activities, participants will walk away with tools to support safe, respectful, and empowering engagement.
