It has been just over a month since inSpire’s Emergency Relief Program came to an end, with final deliveries sent out on 22nd December 2020.
From a serendipitous conversation in Sibling by Kinfolk’s café, this program grew and evolved over 7 months, providing 694 food packages to 235 women and their children – an incredible 1,388 weeks’ worth of food. It provided a lifeline to women and their children from migrant and refugee backgrounds affected by family violence, at a time when so many services were overwhelmed, unable to continue or paused due to the pandemic. We are so proud to have been able to pivot our work to provide such vital assistance.
Throughout this program, inSpire were able to provide a range of support alongside culturally appropriate, quality and local food. Women received Diwali and Christmas gifts, bath and beauty products, up-to-date, in-language health information pertaining to client’s locations and the opportunity to see a smiling face at every delivery. Being able to keep in contact with women during the height of the pandemic was so important to ensuring their wellbeing, and keeping them connected with our services.
The compassion and kindness of the community was humbling, and we were privileged to have worked with our partners to provide such meaningful, culturally appropriate and quality food, materials and information. This included the beautiful food from Sibling by Kinfolk, quality face masks from SisterWorks and the Social Studio, gifts from students of the Holmesglen Institute, Christmas presents donated by the Salvation Army and funding from the Collier Charitable Foundation and the Barlow Foundation.
Of course, our Emergency Relief Program would not have been possible without our incredible volunteers (from both our staff and the community), who ensured that inTouch’s clients received the support they needed.
We think our clients said it best:
“We love everything … we didn’t have enough food at home so this was amazing for us. My children were waiting every week! Thank you very much, inTouch!”
“I would like to thank you for all the help and support you gave us in this difficult time. I got more than what I expected from you and it was nice to have you by our side and there was amazing food delivery service! I am very thankful for your help and all the things you did for us.😊🙏” – inTouch Clients and Emergency Relief Program Recipients
To thank our volunteers and celebrate their generosity, we held an event on 28th of January at Richmond Social. Attendees received Aesop gift packs and enjoyed nibblies and drinks, whilst hearing speeches from the CEO, the inSpire Program Manager and Client Services Team Leaders, showing the impact and importance of their work.
