Family violence is a pattern of behaviours where one person tries to dominate and control the other.

  • isolating a woman from her friends and family
  • stopping a woman from practicing her religion and culture.

Examples of family violence

Some examples of family violence is when your husband, partner or a family member:

  • makes you feel scared in your own home
  • always says they will cancel your visa and send you back home
  • says bad things to you and makes you feel bad about yourself
  • controls where you go and who you go with
  • stops you from having any money
  • always checks your phone
  • stops you from talking to your friends and/or families
  • threatens to take your children away from you
  • tells you they hit you because you deserve it or because they love you
  • hurts you in front of your children
  • threatens to hurt your children
  • makes you do sexual things you do not want to do.
